GACP time_ser Data Files
Monthly averages of the aerosol optical thickness and Angstrom exponent are available for the full period from October 1981 through December 2009. All files are in the plain ascii format and compressed using gzip utility. The files are named according to the following template:
yymm.type.ascii
where yy is the last two digits of the year (83-01), mm is the month number (1-12) and type is either "tau" or "a" indicating aerosol optical thickness and Angstrom exponent respectively. Aerosol optical thickness is reported at 550nm.
The files format is as follows: the first line indicates the respective year and month and is followed by 180 rows of 360 floating point numbers. Each number represents the monthly average of the corresponding quantity in the respective 1x1 deg grid box. The top row represents the northmost grid boxes (89N-90N). The first column represents the 180W-179W grid boxes. Each number takes 6 places and is given with 2 decimal places. Absence of data is indicated by -1.00
Note: If you use a command-line tool (e.g., Wget) to download datasets from this directory, please be sure to use a recent version that uses the HTTP/1.1 protocol.
