Stable Water Isotope Intercomparison Group, Phase 2 (SWING2)

SWING is a project to compare water-isotope enabled GCM results across modeling groups. The overview webpages and first stage data are available from the SWING webpage at the University of Colorado.

There is a mirror of the SWING2 data available here for direct download. In addition to the original data, we have created an additional repository of derived products from some of the SWING2 netCDF data here. There is a table of summary details (PDF) on the SWING2 models (contributed by Camille Risi) and two sets of summary data:

1) Annual, DJF and JJA data from CAM, ECHAM, GISS ModelE, HadAM, isoGCM, LMDZ, and MIROC models, in both free-running and nudged simulations.

Model Annual DJF JJA
CAM Ann DJF JJA
ECHAM Ann DJF JJA
GISS-E Ann DJF JJA
GISS-E (free) Ann DJF JJA
HadAM Ann DJF JJA
LMDZ (adv14) Ann DJF JJA
LMDZ Ann DJF NA
LMDZ (hires) Ann DJF JJA
LMDZ (free) Ann DJF JJA
MIROC (free) Ann DJF JJA
isoGSM Ann DJF JJA

2) Monthly inter-annual composites of precipitation, temperature, water vapor and isotopes for the different models used in Risi et al. (2012):

CAM monthly_swing_CAM.nc
ECHAM monthly_swing_ECHAM.nc
GISS-E monthly_swing_GISS.nc
HadAM monthly_swing_HadAM.nc
LMDZ monthly_swing_LMDZ.nc
LMDZ (free) monthly_swing_LMDZfree.nc
MIROC (free) monthly_swing_MIROCfree.nc
isoGSM monthly_swing_isoGSM_sfc.nc monthly_swing_isoGSM_atm.nc

Credits

Acknowledgment is given to to Camille Risi, David Noone and Sylvia Dee for input and derived data and to all of the participating groups. The SWING2 project was initially set up by Christophe Sturm, Kei Yoshimura and with the assistance of IAEA-Hydrology. Unfortunately, we can not provide any further support for users of this data. If you have created other diagnostics from the SWING2 archive, we would be happy to host them here for convenient public access.
